The claim, plainly
A child never creates an account, never holds a login, and never has data of their own on our systems. Where a household turns on Family Sync, that data lives under the parent's account and is controlled entirely by the parent. There is no advertising SDK and no analytics SDK anywhere in the app.
How COPPA applies
The US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act governs the online collection of personal information from children under 13, and attaches obligations — verifiable parental consent, disclosure, deletion on request — to operators who collect it.
Choreby is built so that the parent is always the account holder and the decision maker. With Family Sync off, nothing is collected at all. With it on, the parent creates the account, the parent enters whatever display name they choose for their child, and the parent can view, change or delete all of it at any moment. Consent is not an afterthought bolted on; it is the only way the feature can be switched on.
Beyond the legal minimum, we hold to the part that actually matters:
- No behavioural advertising to children. No advertising at all.
- No third-party trackers, pixels or social SDKs anywhere in the app.
- No requests for a child's surname, age, birthday, school, photo, voice or location.
- No chat, comments, messaging or any way for a stranger to reach a child.
- No links out to the open web from the child-facing parts of the app.
- No purchases a child can make. Gems are earned by doing quests, never bought.
- Every monster, room item and badge is free, so there is no pressure loop aimed at a kid.
What a kid actually has
A display name and an avatar, both set up by you. Families typically use a first name or a nickname, and a nickname works perfectly well if you would rather nothing identifying leaves the device. Choreby has no field for a surname, an age, a birthday or a contact detail, so none can be supplied even if you wanted to.
The Parent Zone
Anything with real-world consequences sits behind a PIN that you set: creating and pricing quests, defining rewards, adjusting gem balances, approving completed work, choosing the monster's care mode, and managing your subscription and sync. A child using the app cannot change what a reward costs or pay themselves.
Treat the PIN as a child-resistant latch rather than a lock. It stops an opportunistic eight-year-old, not a determined teenager. Keep a passcode on the device itself for real security.
Approve before payout
Any quest can be marked Needs Approval, which holds the gems until you confirm the work was done. With Family Sync on, that approval can happen from your own phone through the Family Hub, wherever you are.
Beyond the United States
The same design satisfies the substance of the UK Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code), the GDPR's protections for children, and comparable rules elsewhere: data minimisation by default, no profiling, no detrimental use of children's data, and high-privacy settings out of the box.
On nudge techniques specifically: Choreby does not use loss-framed streak pressure, artificial scarcity, timed offers or any mechanic designed to keep a child in the app longer than the work takes. The monster's health is the one thing that declines, it declines slowly and visibly, it always recovers with care, and in Magical mode it cannot be lost at all. The goal is for a kid to open the app, clear the board, and put the phone down.
Deleting a child's information
Remove the kid in the Parent Zone, or delete your parent account to erase the whole household record, or delete the app to clear the device. Full instructions are on the delete your data page.
